The "Calamaro" (killer squid) is deadly. This jig is perfect for deeper water jigging ( 150-300 ft.). When heading offshore have this jig ready for sightfishing schools of mahi mahi or tuna fish busting under birds or along a weedline. The jig comes rigged with a 9/0 assist hook.

Rigging Recommendations & How to Use the Calamaro

Attach a #7 split ring to the head of the lure then add a swivel  to the split ring. The swivel prevents line twists.  To the business end of the swivel attached the leader.  The swivel will prevent the main line from twisting and will allow the jig to perform the way it was designed to work.  Recommended leader material is 10 ft of 100 lb. fluorocarbon or a trace piece of #7 wire. Underneath the skirt attach a #7 split ring with a Owner Single Replacement Hook attached either a size #4 or #5.

Troll the jigs off the flat lines especially along weedlines and remember to stagger the flatlines.  Mix up the color combinations you are using until you have the bite dialed in. Troll the jigs between 5-8 knots, make sure you use a flat line clip. The flat line clip will help keep them just under the surface, adjust the flat lines accordingly based on sea conditions until you find the sweet spot.

If you are working structure or a piece of floating debris offshore, make your initial pass while watching your depth finder.  If nothing happens, make another pass on the structure. This time slow the boat down and let the jig sink. Put the boat back into gear and start trolling again.  This brings the squids back up from the depths at a fast pace.  The rapid movement of the squid jig from deep to shallow may provoke a reactionary bite from a big fish.
